How CarStruck works
Car owners list their cars and anyone can bid. Every car runs for 7 days, every car has an independent inspection, and every price is in Canadian dollars.
Buyers
- 1Sign up
Free and no dealer licence needed. Phone number, photo ID, a selfie we match to it, and a card on file. About three minutes, and it keeps fake accounts out.
- 2Bid
Every auction runs 7 days. Each car shows its inspection report and an all-in price, fee and tax included, so you know what you'll pay. When you bid, we hold the 3.9% buyer fee on your card. Nothing is charged unless you win.
- 3The last two minutes
A bid in the last 2 minutes puts the clock back to 2:00. The auction ends only when nobody bids for two full minutes. Tap the bookmark on any car and we'll remind you an hour before it ends.
- 4Win
If the auction ends with the reserve met, the car is yours. We charge the buyer fee and connect you with the seller right away. Remember, every bid is legally binding.
- 5Pay the seller and pick up
Sign the bill of sale and pay the seller directly, by bank transfer or bank draft. CarStruck isn't part of the payment and never holds the car money. Pick the car up within 7 days. Prefer delivery? Pay before it arrives, and the driver confirms the VIN at handover.
Sellers
- 1Tell us about your car
VIN, kilometres and a few photos. We take cars in the GTA worth $40K or more with under 100,000 km; classics by approval. We reply within one business day.
- 2Prove it's yours
Photo ID, a selfie and your ownership. Our inspector checks them and the VIN in person at the inspection. A loan on the car is fine; a lease has to be bought out first.
- 3Inspection and listing
An independent inspector comes to you: test drive, full check, code scan and photos. We write the listing and check your reserve. Nothing goes live until you say so.
- 4Seven days live
Answer questions in the comments; buyers trust sellers who reply quickly. We tell you about every bid. You can lower your reserve while it runs, never raise it. While your car is live on CarStruck, it can't be sold or advertised anywhere else.
- 5Close the deal
You get the buyer's name and number right away. You both sign the bill of sale, and the buyer pays you directly. Don't hand over the car or keys until the money has cleared. Reserve not met? You have 24 hours to accept the high bid.
Payment, paperwork, pickup or transport, and registration, step by step for the buyer and the seller.
The rules
- Reserve not metThe seller has 24 hours to accept the high bid through CarStruck. The normal buyer fee applies.
- PickupWithin 7 days of winning, longer only if both agree in writing. The buyer pays the seller directly, before pickup.
- DeliveryThe buyer pays before the car is delivered. The driver scans the VIN and photographs the car at handover. The buyer has 48 hours after delivery to raise a problem with the seller.
- Buyer backs outThey lose the buyer fee and their account. The second-highest bidder is offered the car at their top bid and has 24 hours to accept, or the seller relists for free.
- Seller backs outPulling the car, selling it elsewhere or refusing to sell once the reserve is met costs the buyer fee plus the inspection and photo cost.
- No side dealsDuring the auction and for 30 days after, buyer and seller can't make the deal outside CarStruck. If they do, both owe the fee and both accounts close.
- Who can sellPrivate sellers in the GTA. Dealers by invitation for now.
What it costs
Listing is free. We write the listing and run the auction at no cost to you.
Launch rate for the first 6 months, then 4.9%. At least $250, never more than $4,900. Held on your card while you bid, charged only if you win.
We never hold it. The buyer pays the seller directly, and our fee is the only money we take.
